As the Great nephew of Legendary Soul Singer Al Green, Domonic Styles was born with singing in his soul. He grew up a product of a broken home when his father split when he was just a young boy. After living on the South, North, East and West sides of Grand Rapids, Domonics mother decided to move them to Lansing, MI, because of problems she was having in abusive relationships as well as Domonics problems and involvement in fights, gangs and drugs. Growing up for Domonic was never easy. He was always involved in something whether it was fights at school or being booked downtown as a juvenile for robbery. It seemed like he was always fighting something. Maybe that was because of the lack of a fatherly role model, but around ten or eleven Domonic Styles traded more than words with one of the men who abused his mother. A time before that he was held at gun point by this same man to where his mother had to jump in front of the gun. Janine Key, the mother of Toya, Domonic and Janotra, had very hard times keeping the family afloat financially to where she would have to hustle to get her children a meal. Whats a hustle? Anything to provide for her children whether it was selling drugs, herself, or her property. There were times that Domonic would stay up way beyond bedtime on school nights just to wait for his mother to come back with something to eat or whatever she had. His family would move just about every year for about 7 years straight. There was no stability and later on in life Domonic would find out that same thing applied for adults. He'd be forced into staying in women shelters with his mother and sister because they had no place to go. He remembers days as a child where he ran up the stairs crying to his bedroom to pump his rigged up stereo system with car speakers until the pain had gone. He"d break down those same speakers and put them in his mothers car that didnt move because of no money to fix to listen to R&B like BlackStreet and Jodeci. He'd pray and invasion a day were he too could make music and support his family. Now at age 26, father to a daughter, financial debt, pending and unsecured court cases, Domonic Styles is ready to take on the world. He's seen hard times both as a child and as an adult. He has worked hard and viciously to make his dreams a reality. He is just one man. I'll tell you what! God must have blessed Domonic Styles because he is the future of R&BG music. No matter the storm he will always be prepared.
